Ruby with an Accent - Organising a Regional Ruby Conference

今年、わたしは Scotland on Rails ( http://scotlandonrails.com/ ) を共同運営した。イギリスで最初の地域 Ruby/Rails カンファレンスだ。100 の代表団と20のスピーカーを世界中からひきつけた。もちろん、地域の開発者や名の知れたひとたち (Koz, Jim Weirich, Bruce Williams、そして David A Black など) もね。
誰に聞いても、カンファレンスは大成功だった。
会場や日程の選び方といった基本的なとこからはじめ、keynote を選んだり、費用を徴収したり、慈善日を企画したり、シャツやプログラムをつくったりなど、より深くかかわるスタッフまでこなした。
コミュニティの運営に興味があり、地元のユーザーグループでカンファレンスを運営するなら、このセッションは大きな助けとなるだろう。

I used to be a process consultant working with XP and Agile. I was the third independent signatory on the Agile Manifesto. I spent a long time working primarily with Java, and now I’m going to be doing Ruby development pretty much full-time working with EdgeCase and FiveRuns.
I’ve worked for ObjectMentor, ThoughtWorks and eXoftware and with clients like Coca-Cola, JPMorgan, Egg and AOL.
I’m proud Ruby/Rails contributor by way of three small patches for Rails and one for RubyGems, I spoke on XP and Rails at RailsConf2007 and organised the Scotland On Rails conference in 2008 and 2009.
